How to Get Banned from Google Adsense

How to Get Banned from Google Adsense
- by Fernando Hal

With so many people ranting and screaming and crying that Google has disabled their adsense account, it’s really an interesting topic worthy to write about. You might be another one who just got the dreaded “invalid click” account closure email from Adsense team, and furious over it. Relax, mate. Not the end of the world, but it is definitely good to know the reason why you are banned. If you still have your account intact, read this, but as our Uncle Ferdy says: “Don’t try this at home.”

Keep in mind that these are HOW TO GET BANNED. In other words, this is a “DO NOT” list if you don’t want your adsense account to be disabled .

  1. Ignore Adsense Program Policies & TOS
  2. Click on your own ads, specially those you are “genuinely interested” in. Ask people to click on your ads: your friends, your family members, your relatives, your visitors, or even your dogs or your cats. Use proxies to avoid detection.
  3. Participate in some form of click-ring. Click-rings are groups of people who gather with consensus to click each others’ ads. Most commonly used methods are Yahoo Groups, instant messenger, mail list, web forum, or specially written software.
  4. Buy, write, or use click-bot software. Click-bot software will go around your site and click on your ads. Most of the times, these click-bots are using proxies to avoid detection.
  5. Pay the Indian-clickers. These are the people whose main jobs are clicking on PPC advertisements and paid by the malicious publishers. Most of them are from developing countries like India or China.
  6. “Invest” with websites that promises to deliver “adsense clicks” for your site. Whatever methods they are using, most likely it falls under one of the aboves.
  7. Extra words to make your visitors to notice your ads. Write “Click here” or “Please support us” or “Visit our sponsors”. Anything other than Google-approved “sponsored links” or “advertisements”.
  8. Put in as many ads as possible in every page. Put more than three units of the normal ads block, more than one unit of ads links, or more than one referral buttons for each adsense, adwords, and firefox; all in one page.
  9. Use spyware to get traffics to your site. Spyware, adware, malware, or whatever it is called can force computer users to open your website everytime they start the computer. Or even better, use some kind of specially written software, toolbar, etc to display or click on your ads.
  10. Use pop-ups on your website. Everytime your user open a page, pop-up another one, ideally with the smiley or the IQ Test advertisements.
  11. Get as much un-targetted traffic as possible, for instance using the auto-surfing programmes to rotate the members around your site and other sites.
  12. Put the adsense code in non-content pages: registration forms, term and condition, login page.
  13. Have a competitor contextual ad on same page with adsense ads, for example Yahoo Publisher Network. Please note though that non-contextual ads, e.g. affiliate links or keyword-based ads are acceptable by google and won’t get you banned.
  14. Get more than one adsense account. Maybe one for your dog-site, one for your cat-site, one for the v1agra pills, one for mp3 download, etc.
  15. Put your adsense code in email the email, usenet, RSS, etc.
  16. Tell everyone what is your CTR, your page impressions, etc. Telling people about your total earning, unfortunately, is allowed.
  17. Put Google logo where you shouldn’t, and don’t put the logo where you should. In other word, ignore Google trademark.
  18. Modify Adsense code as you see fit. Modify the layout, color, URL, will be well. Just anything other than copy-and-paste the code from Google.
  19. And, this is important: if and when Google Adsense Team sends you email, ignore it.
  20. Put adsense codes in the banned contents

* Excessive profanity
* Violence, racial intolerance, or advocate against any individual, group, or organization
* Hacking/cracking content
* Illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia
* Pornography, adult, or mature content
* Gambling or casino-related content
* Excessive advertising
* Any other content that promotes illegal activity or infringes on the legal rights of others
* Pop-ups, pop-unders or exit windows that interfere with site navigation, obscure Google ads, change user preferences, or are for downloads. Other types of pop-ups, pop-unders, or exit windows may be allowed, provided that they do not exceed a combined total of 5 per user session
* Excessive, repetitive, or irrelevant keywords in the content or code of web pages
* Deceptive or manipulative content or construction to improve your site’s search engine ranking, e.g., your site’s PageRank
* Incentives (monetary or point-based) to users or third-party beneficiaries for online activity including, but not limited to, clicking on ads or links, performing searches, surfing websites, reading emails, or completing surveys
* Sales or promotion of certain weapons, such as firearms, ammunition, balisongs, butterfly knives, and brass knuckles
* Sales or promotion of beer or hard alcohol
* Sales or promotion of tobacco or tobacco-related products
* Sales or promotion of prescription drugs
* Sales or promotion of products that are replicas or imitations of designer goods

Subject: Google AdSense Account Disabled

Hello (member name),

It has come to our attention that invalid clicks have been generated on the Google ads on your site(s). We have therefore disabled your Google AdSense account. Please understand that this step was taken in an effort to protect the interest of the AdWords advertisers.

A publisher’s site may not have invalid clicks on any ad(s), including but not limited to clicks generated by:

- a publisher on his own web pages
- a publisher encouraging others to click on his ads
- automated clicking programs or any other deceptive software
- a publisher altering any portion of the ad code or changing the layout, behavior, targeting, or delivery of ads for any reason

Practices such as these are in violation of the Google AdSense Terms and Conditions and program polices, which can be viewed at:

https://www.google.com/adsense/localized-terms?hl=en_US

Hello,

As you know, Google treats instances of invalid click activity very seriously. By disabling your account according to our policy on this matter, we feel that we have taken the necessary measures to protect our advertisers and to ensure that invalid clicks will not continue to occur on your site.

Publishers disabled for invalid click activity are not allowed further participation in Google AdSense. We appreciate your understanding.

What is constitutes invalid clicks? This is what google says:

Invalid clicks are clicks generated through prohibited methods. These prohibited methods include but are not limited to: repeated manual clicks, or the use of robots, automated clicking tools, or other deceptive software.

Please note that clicking on your own ads for any reason is prohibited, to avoid potential inflation of advertiser costs. All clicks must be generated as the result of a user clicking on the ads. We therefore require that Web pages do not include incentives of any kind for users to click on ads. This includes encouraging users to click on the ads or to visit the advertisers’ sites as well as labeling the ads with text other than “sponsored links” or “advertisements.”

Update (15 April 2006) : Someone suggested that having the word AdSense in domain name might get you banned as well. I contacted AdSense Team to clarify that. Domain name with “AdSense” will not get you banned, but the may just decide not to display ads for that specific domain. I have removed the AdSense blocks here out of good will, but still have it on my other websites.

  1. Unfortunately, once you are banned, there is very little chance to get reinstated. You can try to write them an email. Make sure it is professional and polite. Ask them what you can do to get it the account back. Even if you get your account back, your previous earning will be forfeited.

  2. Fernando Hal is talking about people from developing countries click on the ads for gaining money. Well I can show you a number of example when people of developed countries like USA, UK, Australia, and many more do the same thing. Actually its a rubbish to point out some specific country. I am not supporting India or China but still its stupid to act as only develoing countries do these things. The main fact is that every web publisher needs money to support his/her online projects. I have seen warez site and hacking site using adsense and site is registered as well as originated from USA. Fernando Hal next time you point some specific country try use your brain. Its funny how you act.

  3. Joe, I’m sure about that. It is really too naive to say that no one from developed country will do that too. Notice that I wrote “most”? The point here is that people from developing country have more incentive for doing the clicking. 1000 US$ can buy much more things there than in US.

  4. Am i allowed to put more than one ad on my website under one user or can i put more than one?

  5. You can put up to 3 block ads, 1 search box, 1 link ads per page. For product referal, you can put 1 referal link for each product (adsense, adwords, firefox, etc).

    Just make sure that you don’t put it together with ads from other ppc ads like ypn.

  6. I tell you that Google Adsense themselves are fraud. First they enroll us in their program. We invest our time and resources into it. After an year when you are bound to get a payment, they will disable your account without giving any reason whether you are guilty or not. They have no liability whatsoever and it is their right to cheat people. They never tell you what was the cause of diabling accoun or provide any data. It means that it is their choice when to stop payment to the publisher. Google Adsense is only cheating its publishers and its advertisers. Morever, their check never reaches on time. Sometimes your payment never reaches in 4 months. They have set their own monopolistic rules. And there is no rule to safeguard publishers interest.

    Its all loss-loss situation for both publishers and advertisers in google adsense. If someone may be earning, there is no reliablity he will be earning next month. Any one can clicks repeatedly on google adsense ads on your website and get your account closed. Adsense is all rubbish and just waste of time/energy/resources/money.

    Google is misusing its goodwill and power to cheat innocent people. Its playing with the careers of the people. Stay away from Google adsense

  7. ok i use this for unsuspend…

    say that one of our user think that this is image or hyperlink to other page so he click several time… then he contact me so i know that…. :)

    and u can click from tor…

    i get 1263$ in 15 day then i dont do that in that month…

    change ip and click but you have to do that all day not continusly…
    5min then 10 man then 2 min then 13 min thats it its simple

  8. Well, I must say that I come across more reports of banned AdSense accounts every day. For very large and prominent publishers, the chance to reopen an account does really exist, for small ones this is highly unlikely though.

    For those that got banned (but haven’t clicked on their own ads), however, the world hasn’t ended yet: Why don’t you just try some alternatives? There are several other ad networks out there, it doesn’t always have to be Googe AdSense. My personal favorite, for example, is , which offers contextual advertising – just like Google.

  9. Sorry about the previous comment, I messed up the HTML link.

  10. Please don’t insult indians, “Pay the Indian-clickers.” they don’t need to click anyone else ads. See exapmple, labnol.org, he’s having nice blog and is adsense’s premium publisher. Pointing to indians only is a not good idea. This hurt us.

  11. I’m sure 99% of those who get banned by Adsense know exactly what they did to get banned. If Google was arbitrarily banning people left and right we’d have heard of it by now.

  12. @Scoop: I have not met anyone that get banned from Google didn’t know what they did wrong. They usually say what they do is too little to be considered fraud. But fraud is fraud, you see…

    @qweqweqwe : it is really quite easy to detect that. I doubt you can get the cheque

    @Ronny :it doesn’t seem to get enough pool of advertisers

    @Mohit: did French fries originated from France? Nope, it didn’t.

    @ryan : welcome

    @Tom : Can’t see anything interesting there

    @Spirit : couldn’t agree more

  13. Great post! Anyway, regarding rule #3, does it also mean that we should NOT put our signature in the emails sent through yahoo mailing list (yahoo groups) that can bring them to our site?

    Please kindly advise…

    Thank you so much!

  14. I think it all depends. If your email is mainly advertisement for your site then it is wrong. If your email carries something useful, adding a link signature won’t hurt.

  16. I’m quite skeptic, tush. The only way I know to reinstate Google Adsense account is by sending sincere appeal, and it doesn’t necessarily work. Let alone usinbg third party service

  17. Can i just ask how they would know if you asked people to click on your ads? like friends and so on, ask them just to click on 30 a day or whatever?

  18. Hey, thanks for the info – great article.

    I don’t understand one thing: why it’s easier to look for 1000 of ways to cheat instead of using this time to optimize and earn honestly?

    Lol, check This Article for the top 10 reasons why people fail with adsense.

    Thanks!

  19. thats true fernando…. but what im saying is therse plenty of other ad programs out there to choose from… personally forget ads i think im gonna move over to ppa

  20. Wow ! Accidentally 4 clicks? You must be kidding me. That is quite a click-itchy finger, isn’t it? Lol. If that’s a first time, probably not banned. But flagged, yes, I would think so.

  21. Oh. Thanks Frenando. What really happened was my 10 year old son was curious about the revenue from the ads, so he pressed on them 4 times before I could tell him to stop. If I get flagged, will it cause any problems on my AdSense account?

  22. In that case it will be safer to send an email to adsense-support_AT_google.com explaining the situation. Also include the information on date and time of the click.

  23. I can understand how much Google wants to secure the clicks as it’s obvious if it wasn’t secured there won’t be any value to it (who will pay to advertise? no-one).
    But the technology cannot really tell if a click is a real or not. So it’s DIYs stuff, trying to put some legitimity behind the fact that they cannot be 100% sure. I concead it must be obvious in a large proportion. But it seems so easy to take down a competitor with these rules.
    Anyway if I apply someday I hope only real traffic (and real clicks) will be made on my site !

  24. well, I’m never going to cheat. Anyway, you-tube asked me to partner with ad sense earlier today. However, i don’t know what to do or how to receive earnings. I’m trying to earn money but i haven’t earned 1 cent at all. I’ve been approved for about 5 or 6 hours now. Any suggestions?

  25. i just know that Google Adsense able to track that you paid for india and China to people to click it. I heard that it is hard to create another Google Adsense account once you been banned. You need to try to use many fake email address and so on to create a fake account .

  26. It tore me apart when I found out my account was disabled. Recently I came across a website that approves google adsense accounts. Koodaybox.com approved a new account for me… thank goodness!

  27. You must read this!
    After conducting several experiments and research on what and what kind of how it works google AdSense, I found two conclusions, like this:
    1. You put google adsense on your site, the positive value as our gratitude to Google for providing various services for free (eg: think for yourself). So, although we realize that human life is certainly needed the money. In addition, without clicking anything you can see some of the latest information from the ads on sites classy, although I know it should be clicked.
    2. The negative side of the google adsense is, teams like google adsense fraudsters from fraudsters. And maybe google can not afford to pay you once your income reaches $ 100 / 2 hour or even higher. And I think google is not likely to return the money / fund losses to the advertiser, it was a lie. Google adsense will definitely eat it. So, \fraudster\ is hard to be able to fool his grandfather \imposter\.

    We are not likely to teach fish to swim, unless the contrary. Now maybe you can feel good because you can get google AdSense account, and place it on your site. But, take a little time to cry because it puts Google AdSense on your site. Because it is not business, it is the decoration. Another said it was \a symbol of trust\ to the site owner. I believe you are not a traitor.
    Please look for me, let’s get drunk now!

  28. Hello! I used to have Google Adsense on 3 blogs on Blogspot, and things were going quite well. But suddenly my Adsense account was blocked for invalid clicks. I used to check my stats every day (CPC, CTR, pageviews etc) and even in the day my account was blocked I haven’t noticed any strange activity at all! I had the same number of views and clicks as usual.

    I sent the application to reinstate my account saying that I didn’t do anything wrong, but they didn’t agreed. In the first mail they said: “After reviewing our records, we’ve determined that your AdSense account poses a risk of generating invalid activity”. So I didn’t even had invalid clicks, they were just suspicious about it.

    Do you have any idea why? Is it because of the content of my blogs?

  29. The fact is that it is really simple to get banned from adsense and often times getting a detailed enough reason for why is going to be difficult. As with any business it is better to be diversified.

  30. You forgot one thing. Own a small website with 100 unique visitors a day or less, that Google doesn’t care about. They will accept more if you are of economic importance to them.
