Bing is Gaining Search Market Share

Web analytics firm StatCounter says that Microsoft’s Bing search engine is gaining share in US search at Google’s expense. In July 2009, Bing had 9.41%, up 1% from 8.23% in June. Google’s share of the US search market slipped to 77.54% from 78.48%. With this latest figure, the combined share with new search partner Yahoo works out to 20.36 percent.
So, it does seem that Bing is growing in popularity. Perhaps people are just experimenting, or maybe they are attracted by the nice travel search, or the refreshing background pictures. Whatever it is, Bing is certainly not a search engine to overlook and underestimate. Search engine optimization for Bing is thus a must for every webmaster.
Statcounter said:
Bing continues to make slow but steady progress but the combined Yahoo figures suggest that the deal announced last week will have to demonstrate major future synergies if it is to make any dent in Google’s dominance.
What do you think? Do you agree that Bing will continue to gain search market share? Is SEO for Bing worth it?
